2019 Local Corps Focus

Maria Arzuagas from Edwardsville, IL will be performing with the Music City Color Guard this Summer. Color guard is her life’s passion, starting as a Freshman at Edwardsville High School in the Marching Band in 2014, and participating in Winter Guard all four years of High School. She also marched The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with the Macy’s Great American Marching Band in 2016 and 2017. Marching with Music City this year is Jackie Zheng from Madisonville, KY. This Fall, he will be a Junior at Madisonville North Hopkins High School and he is a trumpet player. The reason Jackie joined Music City was because his sister marched with them in 2016. Following in her sister’s footsteps, Jackie’s sister is source of inspiration. “[My Sister] inspires to try harder and do my best,” Jackie said. DRUMS on the OHIO is excited to welcome Music City back to Reitz Bowl on June 24. Joining them again this year is Matthew Zoch from Mount Vernon, IN. Matthew is currently a Sophomore at Murray State University, majoring in Music Business. On weekends, he enjoys returning home to Mount Vernon to help his high school alma mater.  Matthew is currently in Murray’s marching band, percussion ensemble and concert band. Performing with Phantom Regiment again this season is Reitz High School graduate Andrew Koch. In the Fall, Andrew will be attending his fourth year at Indiana State University where he studies Music Education. He is a member of the baritone section in the university’s marching band and he has also participated in the ISU Wind Symphony as the principal euphonium. Andrew has moved on to the ISU Wind Orchestra but has always been willing to perform with various ensembles whenever there is a need. Newburgh native and Castle High School graduate Thomas Weber will be performing his second season with Phantom Regiment. During high school, Thomas qualified for state finals individually along with winning several BOA regionals and performed in BOA Grand Nationals with the Marching Knights. It was through his marching band experience that he found his love for performance and travel – along with meeting many life-long friends. Thomas is a natural born adventurer. The Boston Crusaders will be returning to DRUMS on the OHIO on June 24. Seth Patterson from Evansville, Indiana will joining them. This will be Seth’s second year with Boston. He will be marching along with the Mellophone line. Seth is a graduate of Harrison High School. Seth was a member of the marching band at Harrison. North High School graduate Patrick Jackson has been performing in DCI since 2016. From 4th grade band to now with his current passion of drum corps -- whether it was concert, jazz, honors groups, or marching -- it has always been a part of his life. Music City will be coming to DRUMS on the OHIO again this year in the World Class Division. Joining them is Luke Becher from Newburgh, Indiana. Katherine (Kate) Alward from Owensboro, Kentucky will be marching with the Carolina Crown Guard this year. At the young age of 15, she was offered her first contract with Carolina Crown. "I attended my first DCI show, DRUMS on the OHIO, at 8 years old. I knew then that I wanted to march drum corps," says Kate.
