DRUMS on the OHIO is excited to welcome Music City back to Reitz Bowl on June 24. Joining them again this year is Matthew Zoch from Mount Vernon, IN. Matthew is currently a Sophomore at Murray State University, majoring in Music Business. On weekends, he enjoys returning home to Mount Vernon to help his high school alma mater. Matthew is currently in Murray’s marching band, percussion ensemble and concert band.
While in high school, besides being in the marching band for 4 years, Matthew was also in the Jazz band, pep band, and concert band. His strongest instrument is percussion, playing snare and tenors in marching band and winter line, but he also learned flute and clarinet to play in our concert band. His junior and senior years, he helped form a winter percussion line. Something that had not been done at his school in over 10 years. While in High School, Matthew took advantage of all music classes that he could and took lessons and classes outside of school to better his skills.
“Corps teach discipline, and the drive to do better for yourself and your corp. I would like to instill that in my future students and help them to achieve their goals.”
Upon graduation from Murray State, Matthew plans to return to Southern Indiana, and become a percussion director at a high school somewhere in the area.
Playing percussion in a drum corps has been such a major dream for Matthew. “I believe that by being in a Drum Corp, it will help me in the future when I am teaching my own marching band one day.” Matthew said.
Music City will kick off it’s summer tour at DRUMS on the OHIO on Monday, June 24. Music city will be presenting their 2019 production, “Of Mice and Music.” We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us. We hope that Music City and Matthew have a great season and wish them the best of luck!
