Below you will find a list of areas in which volunteers are needed in order to ensure that DRUMS on the OHIO is a successful event. Be sure to read the description of each area as some of them may require specific skills.
Areas with an asterisk (*) denote positions that will work heavily with patrons, drum crops, or the general public and require good people skills.
Be aware that while we would like everyone to work in their preferred position, there is always the possibility of being assigned to another volunteer area due to availability and need. Make sure to note any limitations or timing issues in case you would get assigned to another area.
Pre-Show Setup Crew: Volunteers in this position will assist with pre-show set up at the Reitz Bowl and designated spaces within the school. This will include but is not limited to, setting up chairs and tables, hanging signage and banners, marking off handicapped sections, and assembly judges’ packets. Volunteers for this area should be capable and comfortable lifting slightly to moderately heavy objects.
*Patron Parking: Volunteers in this position will assist with directing traffic BEFORE and AFTER the show in addition to collecting money from patrons who wish to park in the designated parking spaces for the show. Volunteers in this area must be comfortable with expressing authority, dealing with high-stress situations, standing for extended periods of time, and able to communicate clear and precise instructions.
*Corps Parking: (Adults only) Volunteers in this position will facilitate the parking of buses and semi-trucks for the performance in the Bristol Myers parking lot and the streets down by the Reitz Bowl parking lot. This position must be comfortable with assisting buses and semi-trucks into tight areas. The ability to communicate clear and precise instructions is required. Additionally, this position may need to address local residents concerns with parking.
Supply Delivery Crew: (Adults only) Volunteers in this position will deliver water, food, or other various supplies to the different volunteers throughout the event.
Star Spangled Banner: Volunteers in this position will assist with the setup of music stand from the Reitz Bowl field. Additionally, volunteers will ensure performers have water, t-shirts, and returning the stands back up to the school before the corps take the field.
Cleanup Crew: Volunteers in this position are responsible for post-show cleanup. All supplies, borrowed equipment, and signage will need to be taken down and returned to their proper storage space.
*Program Sales: Volunteers in this position will sell DRUMS on the OHIO programs to patrons when the gates open at 5:30 pm and throughout the show. Volunteers in this position should have high energy and must be responsible with money.
*Gate Admission Crew: Volunteers in this position will manage the 4 patron entrances to the Reitz Bowl to ensure that only ticket-paying patrons, volunteers, and other authorized personnel are permitted into the bowl. Additionally, this position will be responsible for hand stamps for patron re-entry privileges as well as ensuring that unauthorized objects (ex. Video cameras, coolers, personal chairs, etc.) are not permitted into the bowl.
*Concessions: Volunteers in this position will Take and fulfill food and beverage orders and handle financial transactions. This position requires volunteers to be able to multi-task as well as being financially responsible and comfortable making change.
*Drink Sales: Volunteers in this position will sell drinks inside the stadium to patrons. Volunteers in this position must be able to comfortably get up and down the steep steps of the stadium, possess financial responsibility, and must be high-energy.
*Ushers: Volunteers in this position will assist in directing patrons to their seats in addition to keeping patrons from going down the steps during a performance. Volunteers in this area must be comfortable with expressing authority, dealing with high-stress situations, standing for extended periods of time, and able to communicate clear and precise instructions.
*Rock Sweepers: Volunteers in this position will sweep away rocks and debris near the fieldhouse entrance. Additionally, volunteers in this position may need to assist corps crews in maneuvering props and other equipment up the hill towards the practice field.
*Ticket Sales: (Adults only) Volunteers in this area will assist with Will Call tickets at the Dreier Blvd. Booth.
Judges Assistant: Volunteers in this position will assist the judges on the field and in the judges’ booth.
*Information Table: Volunteers in this position will hand out information, direct patrons to locations around the bowl, and help with Lost & Found.
*DOTO Ambassadors: (Adults only) Volunteers in this position will walk around assisting patrons with directions and questions. Additionally, volunteers in this position will aid in keeping an eye out for areas of need where additional volunteers may be needed.
